The Knicks still have to figure out if they’ll have a first-round pick at their disposal this year. That’ll be settled this week at the draft lottery in Chicago, where there’s a 20% chance the Mavericks’ pick falls outside of the top-10 and conveys to New York.In the meantime — and before we get into the trade market — there are big contract questions Leon Rose will tackle in the summer with three of his own players:JOSH HARTA revelation for the Knicks after being acquired in February, Hart will likely turn down a $12.9 million player option to become an unrestricted free agent. The expectation is the Knicks re-sign Hart on a multi-year deal — something in the range of four years, $70 million — which would represent a substantial salary increase for the 28-year-old.He’ll be negotiating from a comfortable place. The Knicks already gave up a first-round pick for Hart, and the personal connections (he’s Leon Rose’s former...

Stefan Bondy: Knicks have to face uncomfortable realities with Julius Randle after disappointing playoff run

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 06:47:43 GMT

MIAMI — It’s hard to believe but we’re back here with Julius Randle. Even after his redemptive season. Even after his All-Star appearance and All-NBA selection, we’re back to a year ago: a time of pressing questions about whether Randle was equipped for this city, and whether the Knicks are better off shipping the power forward elsewhere because there’s no reconciling the franchise’s bright lights and loudly critical fanbase with such a sensitive personality. Randle’s playoffs, to put it mildly, were a disaster. He shot 37%. He accumulated about as many turnovers as assists. Against Miami, he met an All-World defender in Bam Adebayo, couldn’t move him in the post, and crumbled. You can’t go from averaging 25 points in the regular season to 16 in the playoffs without disappointment attached to the evaluation. Yet Randle, who has never been eager to accept his shortcomings, was very forgiving. “Same thing ...

Francis, using a cane for his knee problem, came to greet the Ukrainian president before ushering him into a papal studio near the Vatican’s audience hall.
