Lawmakers working to preserve sand berm in Laguna Beach

Published Fri, 21 Feb 2025 18:07:20 GMT

Lawmakers in Laguna Beach are working to preserve a naturally occurring sand berm in Aliso Beach that protects marine wildlife and keeps any harmful contaminants from being released into the ocean. Sometimes the berm is breached naturally during storms, while other times, beachgoers dig out the sand that makes the berm to create a standing wave for skimboarding, officials say. The new laws would impose stricter rules and punishments for people who destroy the berm. “What we’re doing is starting with an educational program," said Laguna Beach Mayor Bob Whalen. “We’re going to have signage out there. Our lifeguards understand the issue. We’re advising people, ‘Please don’t breach the berm.’ In terms of enforcement, we haven't reached that level yet because we don't currently have a mechanism in place.” The new changes are a result of the city of Laguna Beach taking over Aliso Beach and other beaches in South Laguna from the county on March 1. The city is considering cre...

Patrick Bailey fouled off one 3-2 fastball. He sent the next pitch, another heater, back to the net. The St. Louis reliever on the other side of this battle, Chris Stratton, then turned to a curveball, and Bailey fought that pitch off, too. This chess match went on for 11 pitches. Stratton fired, Bailey fouled. Finally, after fighting off five straight two-strike offerings, Bailey lined a fastball that caught just a little too much of the plate for a double into left field, winning the battle and setting the table for a game-deciding rally in the top of the eighth inning. With another two-strike poke into center, Brandon Crawford singled Bailey home to score the go-ahead run in a 4-3 win over the Cardinals on Monday in the first game of a three-game series at Busch Stadium, delivering his second late-inning, go-ahead hit in the past week.“One thing’s for sure is we’re never out of it,” Bailey said on the NBC Sports Bay Area postgame show. “We have consist...

DENVER (KDVR) -- The Denver Nuggets won Game 5 of the NBA Finals against the Miami Heat and are now the league's new champions. The Nuggets outlasted the Miami Heat 94-89 in an ugly, frantic Game 5 that did nothing to derail Nikola Jokic, who bailed out his teammates with 28 points, 16 rebounds on a night when nothing else seemed to work. When is the Denver Nuggets championship parade? Jokic won the Bill Russell trophy as the NBA Finals MVP — an award that certainly has more meaning to him than the two overall MVPs he won in 2021 and ’22.“We are not in it for ourselves, we are in it for the guy next to us,” Jokic said. “And that’s why this (means) even more.”The Nuggets finished the regular season with 53 wins and 29 losses, the best record in the Western Conference and fourth-best overall for the NBA.They followed that by defeating the Minnesota Timberwolves in the first round of the 2023 NBA Playoffs, the Phoenix Suns in the second round and the Los Angeles Lakers in the Western ...
