DALLAS (AP) — Oklahoma and Texas might not be done just yet playing each other in the Big 12 before going to the Southeastern Conference.Midway through the farewell season for the Big 12’s only remaining members with national championships, the fifth-ranked Sooners and No. 9 Longhorns again have established themselves as the league’s top two teams. So instead of next fall under a different conference banner back at the State Fair of Texas, where Oklahoma won 34-30 in a classic battle of unbeaten teams Saturday, the 120th meeting of the Red River rivals could very well be a rematch in the Big 12 championship game on Dec. 2 at AT&T Stadium.“I have no doubt we’re going to see them again in the Big 12 championship,” Sooners safety Peyton Bowen said.“Well, I expect us to get back on the horse,” Texas coach Steve Sarkisian said. “I think that this locker room is full of champions and our goal is to go win a championship this year. So we have to handle our business.”Oklahoma (6-0, 3-0 B...Daniel Jones knocked out of Giants’ loss at Miami, adding to New York’s season-opening woes

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (AP) — Daniel Jones walked off the field early in the fourth quarter, knowing his day over after he had been quickly diagnosed with a neck injury. A few minutes later, his backup Tyrod Taylor was shaken up as well. For the New York Giants, the start to this season has been terrible. And Sunday, it got worse. The Giants lost their starting quarterback after he got sacked six more times, are still without their best running back and more than half of what should be their starting offensive line — and given all that it’s no wonder why this season is getting away fast. Miami exploited all those New York problems and more Sunday, beating the Giants 31-16 and dropping them to 1-4 on the season. It’s the fifth time in the past seven seasons that the Giants have started 1-4 or worse. No Giants team has ever made the playoffs after such a start. And it’s anyone’s guess where the season goes from here, given the inability so far to score or block. The Giants are short-handed — ...Moss upstages Taylor’s return in Colts’ 23-16 victory over Titans. Richardson injures shoulder

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Zack Moss upstaged the return of Jonathan Taylor by running for a career-high 165 yards and two scores and Gardner Minshew was sharp in relief of the injured Anthony Richardson to lead the Indianapolis Colts past the Tennessee Titans 23-16 on Sunday. The Colts (3-2) snapped a seven-game losing streak at home by beating the Titans (2-3) for the first time in six tries.Richardson left with a right shoulder injury late in the first half. He stayed down several minutes before walking slowly from the field to the injury tent with his shoulder drooped. Several minutes later, he came out of the tent and walked with the team’s medical personnel into the locker room.Richardson was ruled out early in the third quarter after going 9 of 12 for 98 yards. Minshew was 11 of 14 for 155 yards in relief of Richardson. On a day when most expected Taylor or Tennessee’s Derrick Henry to be the focus, it was Moss who dazzled. He averaged 7.2 yards on 23 carries in his second 100-y...Miami Police sergeant taken to hospital after officer-involved accident at department

Firefighters battled a house fire in Southwest Miami-Dade that led a good Samaritan to come to a woman’s rescue and impacted over a dozen residents.Flames spread through the home along Southwest 217th Street, near 122nd Avenue, early Sunday morning.Several people were inside at the time, but they made it out safely.Resident Vera Everett said she uses a wheelchair, and she is alive thanks to a brave good Samaritan.“I was asking, ‘Someone please help me. Help me to get out,’ so they heard my cries and helped me to get out,” she said. That good Samaritan, Ronald Floyd, described the tense rescue.“I went in the house, picked her up off her bed and brought her outside. Went inside, got her wheelchair for her,” he said. “That’s all. That was it.”The cause of the fire remains under investigation.Volunteers with the American Red Cross are helping 13 people affected by this fire.Far-right surge upends German state elections

In two German state elections that are seen as a bellwether of the national mood, the far-right Alternative for Germany, or AfD, surged while the three parties that make up the country’s federal coalition government suffered significant losses.Conservative forces won clear victories in both the states of Bavaria and Hesse. In Bavaria, the Christian Social Union (CSU), a sister-party to the center-right Christian Democratic Union (CDU), is projected to win 36.6 percent of the vote, slightly lower than the party’s result in the last state election in 2018. In Hesse, the CDU is set to win 34.6 percent of the vote. But the biggest winner of the night was arguably the AfD, a party that has become increasingly extreme since its founding in 2013. The AfD is projected to come in second place in both Bavaria and Hesse, a historic win for the party. The AfD’s strong performance outside its traditional bastion in the states of the former East Germany suggests the party has successfully exp...PTFE ban: The hidden consumer costs and employment losses

As part of the EU’s landmark Green Deal package, the 2020 Chemicals Strategy for Sustainability called for an ambitious concept: achieving a toxic-free environment by 2030. A central pillar of this ambition is the proposal for a universal PFAS — per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances — restriction, addressing contamination and emissions from the controversial family of substances sometimes known as ‘forever chemicals’.Action to tackle this family of chemicals is overdue, and European industry is ready to do its part. As the president of the Federation of the European Cookware, Cutlery and Houseware Industries (FEC), I welcome the initiative. FEC members pride themselves on providing safe and durable products to consumers, and were early to phase out these problematic substances. Despite this, the current restriction proposal still needs substantial changes to achieve its goals of protecting human health and the environment while balancing socioeconomic effects, impacts on carbon emissi...Mac Jones benched again while Patriots suffer worst home shutout in franchise history

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) — The New England Patriots gave up.Down 24-0 early in the second half, hearing boos at home like they used to on the road, a week after the worst loss of coach Bill Belichick’s career, with quarterback Mac Jones on his way to the bench for the second straight game, the Patriots punted the ball away on a fourth-and-3 inside Saints territory. The move netted New England 27 yards — a minor flip of field position that accomplished nothing. Two more punts and an interception — his second — later, Jones was replaced by Bailey Zappe, bringing out one of the few cheers of the day.“Obviously it wasn’t really good and everyone’s frustrated,” Jones said after the 34-0 loss to the New Orleans Saints. “Of course we’re frustrated. At the end of the day, you have to turn that into action.”A week after a 38-3 loss to Dallas that established an all-time low for Belichick, the Patriots may have topped it with the biggest home shutout in the once-proud franchise...Patriots rookie Chad Ryland explains Sunday’s latest missed field goal

When New Orleans quarterback Derek Carr hit Chris Olave in the back of the end zone with 10:47 to go in the 2nd quarter, the Pats found themselves in a 21-0 hole.A sort of stunned silence/wave of acceptance fell over Gillette Stadium, where a ton of empty seats added mute testimony to the sad state of the 2023 New England Patriots, who fell to 1-4 in a 34-0 loss. This is how it looks when dynasties end. It’s like a slow leak that can’t be stopped until it’s a torrent of incompetence. It’s not pretty. This is where the Patriots find themselves this morning, and the road from here is bleak. Being 0-3 at home is bad enough. Going to Las Vegas next Sunday is an opportunity, albeit it’s also a chance to fall to 1-5. Last year’s visit ended in one of the most embarrassing losses in not just Pats history but NFL history. After that? Buffalo. That’s a loss. Then: At Miami. The Pats struggle there even when they are good. The 2023 Patriots are not good.Nov...Latest news
